2009-2010 NMYHA Volunteer Policy

a.  Each family is required to complete volunteer hours.

b.  The number of volunteer hours to complete is 12 hours per player.  Example:  If there are two children playing hockey in one family there would be 24 required volunteer hours to be worked.

c.  These hours will include, but may not be limited to, working shifts in the concession stand, boosters, and/or helping at tournaments.

d.  Running the clock, scoreboard, scorebook, or penalty box during non-Pirate Classic tournament games or during team scrimmages does not satisfy your required volunteer hours; as these are team-related activities.

e.  A 12 hour credit (maximum 12 hours credit per family) will be given to all board members.

f.  A 12 hour credit (maximum 12 hours credit per family) will be given to the head coach for all teams at the U10/Squirt level and older.

g.  A 6 hour credit (maximum 12 hour credit per family) will be given for 2 assistant coaches for each team at the U10/Squirt level and older.

h.  Families receiving scholarship funding will be required to work one additional hour for each $25.00 of aid received.

i.  The maximum number of volunteer hours to complete per family will be 30 hours.  However, scholarship families must complete the originally required number of hours (maximum of 30) plus the additional hours due to the scholarship funding.

j.  Team managers are not exempt from completing the required number of volunteer hours.

k.  A $300 volunteer deposit check will be collected for each player registering with NMYHA.

l.  In the event that a family does not complete their required volunteer hours, the deposit check will be cashed.  No refund will be given for hours worked.

m.  All of the required volunteer hours must be completed and accounted for before the deposit check will be returned or shredded.

Volunteer Shifts: Requirements and Information

Can I cancel a shift if something comes up?   Cancellations will only be honored if requested more than 14 days prior to the shift.  If there is a hardship, please contact Leigh McDowell, volunteer coordinator.  If you are unable to cancel a shift you can always try to hire someone to work it for you.  A list of individuals available to hire can be found in the "Concessions" area on the webpage.

It is absolutely unacceptable to show up for a shift, sign in and then leave before the end of the shift.  Every one of these ocurrences will be reported to the NMYHA Executive Board for possible action.

When will my shift be credited?  The sign-in sheets from the concession stand and boosters will be picked up on a weekly basis.  The hours will be credited in DIBS from those lists.  Be sure to sign in and complete the required information on those lists.  If you do not receive credit within 7 days of working your shift, please contact Leigh McDowell.

Additional Volunteer Deposit Info

If you were not able to make walk-in registration or have not turned in your $300.00 volunteer deposit you must do so before your skater can begin practice or be allowed by play.  Please make the check out to "NMYHA" and place it in the Volunteer Coordinator's mailbox in the office at Rink 1.

Failure to perform all of the volunteer hours will result in the cashing of the $300 deposit check and other possible consequences deemed appropriate by the NMYHA Executive Board.  Please be mindful that all hours must be completed - time worked is not pro-rated.
